UNHEALTHY BEES

AN UNREGISTERED APIARY

John W. Wallace was charged at the Lower Hutt Court on Wednesday, before IMir E. Page, S.M., with keeping bees in an unregistered apiary.

The Apiary Instructor (Mr D. S. Bobin son) stated that defendant had eighteen hires, which were in a neglected condition. There was a certain amount of disease among the bees and he pointed out that. although registered holders had clean hives and healthy bees, that bees such as defendant was keeping could cause considerable harm when they were mixed with other bees, and their existence under such conditions was detrimental to the work the Department was doing.' Defendant was convicted and fined £5 and 12/- coats.
