HUTT DENTAL CLINIC.

The usual monthly meeting of the Hutt Dental Clinic was held on Monday, March 12th, Mr. W. V. Dyer presiding. Present: Mrs. Joyce, Messrs. Forsyth, Greening, Stead, Webster, Seager and Gearing. The chairman welcomed the delegates from the Waiwetu School and congratulated them on securing admission to the benefits of the Clinic. Mrs. Joyce and Mr. Seager replied thanking the Committee for their efforts. The nurse's report showed that all schools had been revisited and 290 children charted. It now only remains for parents and guardians to sign and return the consent form for the children to receive the necessary treatment. A discussion took place as to the best means to adopt to secure the cooperation of parents in maintaining as far as possible the good work being done. It was reported that quite a number of children on their return in, say, three months had not during that period used a toothbrush. The chairman remarked that unless the Health Department could rely on the support of parents and guardians it might be found necesssary, owing to the number of operations required at each visit, to put a child's mouth in order once only, and make the parents pay for subsequent treatment, which would have to be done by the local dentist. It was suggested by one delegate that a toothbrush drill should be inaugurated in the schools, but the general opinion was that it was essentially a home matter. It would be a matter for regret if it were found necessary to curtail the treatment now being received, and it was suggested that the aid of the press should be sought. The annual report, to be presented at the householders' meeting in May, will be submitted for approval at the next meeting.
