CRICKET NOTES.

The second round of matches was concluded on sth November, and results were as follows:— Seniors v. Petone: Hutt 148 and 76 (H. Tattersall 23, D. Neazor 20). Petone 210. Three-point win for Petone. Wellington A: Hutt 148 and 127 (Wright 35 arid 40, Featonby 14 and 19, Upton 25,-Buckley 26); Wellington, 159 and 6 for 120; Bowling for Hutt (two innings): Stewart 8 for 77, Featonby 3 for 30. Four-, point win for Wellington. Third A v. Kilbirnie: Hutt 99 and 20 (Clarke 27, Little 19); Kilbirnie, 42 and 33. Bowling for Hutt: Sherlock 10 for 30, Clarke 6 for 20. Fourpoint win for Hutt. Third B: A bye. The seniors in their match with Petone crashed badly and the second innings was practically a procession, the only players to make a stand being Tattersall and Neazor. Neazor should have been given a turn with the ball and would have assisted Beard and Aldersley in bringing about Petone's dismissal. It is a long time since the team suffered such a heavy defeat, and it .pis hoped that the lessons to be learned will; have , the desired effect. Closer attention must be given to practice otherwise, the "side will be up against it continuously. With the return of McGirr the side will be considerably strengthened, and it is also understood Warnes and Ross, of the Junior A, will be given a trial in the near future. Provided these boys are handled correctly they will justify their inclusion without a doubt. The matches at Hutt are timed to start at 2.15 p.m.,'which'is a quarter

of an hour later than in Wellington. Why is it, that the Hutt teams are always late in taking the field? There is no excuse for it! Players arriving late should be warned by the captain. The captain or vice-captain should arrange for the wickets to be set up and the team assembled ready for a punctual start Delays in starting cause annoyance and should be avoided if possible. How many games are won and Jost through incompetent scoring? A good scorer who knows his work is a great asset to both teams, and the local captains should endeavour to single out suitable lads for the work. The Senior and Junior A teams both have expert scorers in C. Dudding and L. Jenness, and we would like to see others take up this work also. In scoring 116 against Old Boys F. Warnes performed excellently. He was always master of the bowling and we hope to have the pleasure of recording a similar performance when he takes strike for the seniors. He also bowled excellently in this match in securing six wickets for 19 runs off 7 overs. He could have been used much more as a bowler in this match. In the Third A match v. Kilbirnie, H. Clarke 6 for 30 and Sherlock 10 for 30 were responsible for securing a four-point win for Hutt. Clarke is also very consistent with the bat, and we would like to see him playing junior cricket. . .-.. A team from the-club iritends going on ,tour during the- holidays. Matches have been arranged in Napier, Woodville and Hastings. Tours such as this are very enjoyable. The cost of running >a cricket club is very high, .probably ;higher than any other kindred club, by reason of the fact that so much material of an expensive nature is required to properly equip the teams. All players should remember that the greater the care they bestow on the material issued to them the longer .it's life and incidentally the day of replacement is deferred-
