New Enterprises.

The district around White's Line is rapidly becoming a shopping centre. This week two of our most enterprising business firms have opened branches of their business in that locality. The Hutt Meat Company, realising the requirements of a rapidly growing district, have opened very up-to-date premises, and we feel sure that this firm's action will be much appreciated, and that the new settlers will not be slow to express their appreciation by supporting local enterprise. The name of G. E. Grantham is a household word in the Hutt, and the fact that he has also been alive to the requirements of the new district deserves the support which we are sure he will receive. Grantham's confectionery is second to none, and the new settlers are indeed fortunate in securing such old-established business people to cater for their requirements. The pioneer in this district is Mr. A. E. Thomas, who is out to supply only the very best in groceries at reasonable prices. Mr. Thomas' business has given so much satisfaction that although he has only been in business there for about fourteen months he has already had to extend his premises.

The Miniature Rifle Club C Grade team won the inter-club shield. They established a good record by going through the season without a defeat. The team is as follows:—H. V. Westbury (captain), E. Reynolds, C. Palmer, S. Cross, C. Lambert, L. Caldwell, H. Upperton. A friendly match was fired between the C Grade team and the Lower Hutt Ladies' Club, the scores being as follows:—C. Grade: Palmer 68, Lambert 66, Westbury 65, Cross 65, Caldwell 65, Upperton 64, Reynolds 63; total 456. Ladies': Mrs. Donkin 66, Mrs. Skipage 65 (captain), Miss Donkin 65, Mrs. Hussey 65, Mrs. Cavage 64, Mrs. Kershaw 62, Mrs. Pellham 61; total 448. B Grade team, under the captaincy of Mr. J. Cave, in one of the final shoots for the B Grade shield, scored a record for B Grade, viz., 474. There were two individual possibles—J. Ross and J. Kershaw.
