StOPPEJ) BY THE GoVF.imtEXT. Mr Waddell states thati ho has received through Sergeant Gillies, a communication from tho Mines Department to the following effect:— " The department is advised of a report appearing in the southern papers that Mr Waddell is about to start for the Urewera country with a prospecting party to take up the reef discovered by him at Waihou, on the Whakatane range. The Minister of Mines therefore warns Mr Waddell that he renders himself liable to be proceededagainst under the Urewera Reserves Bill, and that until the country is ceded to the Government no European prospecting will be al-lc-wed." Mr Waddell informs me that he had everything ready to start, but on receipt of that communication, as- ho is supported by a strong English syndicate, until Parlinment meets he proposes prospecting the country botween Ohiwa Harbour and the East Cape, including the Crown lands in the Motu Country. He has acquainted the Minister of Mines to th-it effect.
