TOWN BOARD MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting of th# Town Board took place on Thursday afternoon at tho Board office when there wore present Messrs Dansey (chair), Brent and D'r Cinders. COItifcESPttN'DEXCE. From the Town Cleric, Auckland, stating that there were no obsolete lampposts available, but that new ones could be procured from Masefield's Foundry, Albert St.—Resolved that wooden posts be erected and that the price of lamps for same bo ascertained through MrCurric From the Chairman drawing attention to tho state of the l'oad to the depot—lAwas stated that the road had been fascined and put in order and also the road to the cemetery. From Birt and Co., Dunedin, iu reference to a complaint by the Board that the logs of four garden seats had been broken, advising the Board to claim against the Huddart Parker Co. From Mr J. J. Craig, re same matter, and stating that he had lodged a claim with the agents in anticipation of hearing from the Board.—Resolved that Mr Craig bo supplied with all particulars. From Messrs Russell and Campbell, solicitors, Auckland, asking what the Board intended to do in the matter of the lease to L. D. Nathan and Co., of the' paddock near the Utuhina creek and stating that tho lease in question had been forwarded for signature.-—Resolved that the matter be attended to at once. From T. Chapman asking that the Board take steps to have the section next to his in TTaupapa Street cleared of scrub. —Resolved that the lessee, Mr P. Thorn, be given the usual notice to clear the same within a week, failing which it would be done at his expense. From certain natives of Horohoro asking for a refund of a portion of the money paid for damage done to trees by them. — Tho Chairman stated that they had boon promised a refund of a portion of the amount paid into Court it the trees survived. They were now thriving all right. —Resolved that the cost of tho trees bcrefunded. From the children of the Newmarket school forwarding chain letter in aid of Indian Famine Relief Fund and asking the Board to write out three copies and forward the same to three different persons so -.s to keep tho chain intact. Also requesting the Board to forward subscription. —Resolved that the letters be handed to Mr "Webber to take such action as he might think fit. From Mr W. A. Boulton drawing attention to the state of the drain opposite the farm near the Utuhina creek, and also to the condition of the road.—The Chairman explained that this work would appear on a schedule of proposed works' to be submitted. Ct.erk' op Works Report. The Clerk of works detailed in Bis report the various works carried out during the pa.-il month and enumerated the work to be done during the ensuing month. Special attention was drawn to the abnormally high temperature of tho Postmaster Bath. The men's baths since the beginning of the month had boon at a temperature of 106 to 108 degrees which was much higher than most bathers relished. That day they stood at 110.
