THE SCHOOL PICNIC.
Thursday last was a. gala day amongst the School children, who, in company with their teachers and parents and friends celebrated the commencement of the midsummer holidays by a trip to Putaruru. The youngsters were punctual ; in their attendance at the school-house, (tho place of rendezvous) in tho morning, and headed by the Rotorua Brass Band, alid marshalled by their teachers and the member.? of committee they made their way to tlie station. Over 100 children, and considerably more than that number of adults boarded tho. cars and in due course were landed at Putaruru. A wellshaded paddoc't was placed at their disposal and there, mb tn/miue .ftiffi, they disported themselvs while . Miss fielby. j assisted by several other ladies, busied j themselves in the preparation of lunch. I A vigorous onslaught having been made [ on the eatables, roces were run by the I children with the following results: Senior Boy's Race : Pura, 1 ; E. Hall, 2; T. Butt, 3. Junior Bovs' Race: C. | Dalbeth. 1 : D. Simon, 2 ; R. Danscv. 3. Second Juniors' Race: Amnhia. 1 : Xiko Riraa,- 2: F. Porter, ,'i. Third Juniors' Race: R. Thompson, 1 ; W. Puree!!. 2; ! Henari, 3. Senior Girls' Race: L. Hen- { shaw, 1 : Pahimata, 2 ; INT. Hodge, 3. 1 Junior Girls' Race: Elsie Murray, 1 : M. Scott, 2; S. Henari, 3, Senior Boys' Race: Rogers, 1 ; F. Maenamara, 2 ; D. Thomson. 3. First Juniors' Race: Kepa, 1; Hira, 2; J. Maenamara. 3. Second Juniors' Race : Moko. 1 : Niko R.inia, 2 ; Amaliia, 3. Third Juniors' Race: R. Dansev, 1 : TV. Pureell, 2 ; Henari, 3. Wheelbarrow Race: R. Griffiths and Mikiora. Boys' Consolation Race : Foster. 1 : Mikacro, 2; TI. Fitzgerald. 3. i Girls' .Consolation Race: E. Shaudinessy. 1 ; Gladys At.ty, 2; E. Fitzgerald, 3. All the arrangements were of the most perfect description which reflects the greatest credit on the School Committee and the teachers. The chidlren enjoyed the train trip thoroughly and no untoward circumstance o<i6Urod to mar the pleasantness of the ontin<r. In the even ing after tlieir return Mr Pureell chairman of tho Committee dostributed tho prizes to the successful competitors in the sclioolTiviuse after which an excellent supper was served and dancing was engaged in till a reasonably early hour.
