Referring to the E-iti'ii tes the Waikito limes says:—=-One of the largest iteios as far as the Auckland district is concerned is the amount voted fo.r the purchase of native lands draining and road - making in the Kotorua district. This when applied, will greatly tend to enhance the value of our Wonderland, for by improving the sanitary conditions of its surroundings, and means of communication between outside places, and the various objects of surpassing interest that the traveller can behold there, the progress of the district will he materially hastened, as the greater the facilities for visiting the springs and baths and the natural wonders that exist, the more will they be patronised and consequently wider known. Before leaving the subject of Kotorua we will take the opportunity to state the opinion of the Manchester dele., gates who, it will be remembered, visited that place last week, Jt was to the effect that we had a most valuable asset in the Hot Take district presenting a curative and scenic value that was without a parallel, and which wou)d, under judicious development, become at no distant date the objective of the thousands who annually leaye the shores of Europe hent on plea-ure or the restoration ,t<; health. We are glad to see that the Government recognise the great possibilities attached to the development of the thermal springs district by placing a considerable sum on the Estimates for that purpose.
