Mi* Herries in pursuance of his candidature fortius electorate, arrived here on .Monday night from his place at Shaftesbury, near Te Aroha. In an annnoiui.■,.. tnent which will be found elsewhere he states that he comes forward as an opponent of the present Government. Mr Herries has just returned from a visit to Tauranga. Opotiki, Whauatane and To Puke, and expresses himself thoroughly satisfied with the reception he metwith. During bis trip he has made himself acquainted with the wants of the various districts through which he passed and a cquiivd information which will he useful when he comes toaddross theelectors. He went on to Taupo this morning and purposes returning on Saturday," remaining here till Monday or Tuesday next. Due notice of the candidates public appearauces will be given as soon as the date of the genera! election is announced. Mr Herries puts tip at Lake House Hotel when: he will be glad to see anyone who desires to interview him. The Paraekaretu Express states that a requisition is being <rot up at Mangawoka to invite Mr Kirby, editor of the Mercury, to stand for the Rangitikei seat in the Liberal interest. Mr "VY. 71. Herries who will bo a candidate for this district ;.r the forthcoming election is an old Etonian and took his degree at Cambridge with honors. Ho is at present ' a me.id.er of the Piako Country Council and the Waikato Hospital Board and has been farming near Te Aroha for the past 15 years. Mr Herries is also a fellow of the Geological Society of London, The Electoral Boundary Commissioners have decided that, Cambridge West shall bo taken out of the Bay of" Plenty electorate and placed in.the Waikato. The Bay of Plenty Times states that Mr Stark, of Walton, has been requested to enter the lists for the Bay of Plenty seat, but has not yet definitely decided*.
