TAUPO.
♦ — [FROM OUU OTO COEEESEONDEJfT.] The Crows Nesl Geyser is sow in i I operation with every likelihood of a continuance, which should prove a greal attraction to the tourist, more ospecitUy as the Geyser fraternity in other par) the district are either silent or less activi than usual. Mr Joseph Gallagher of the Lake Hotel met with a nasty accident a tew days ago by the wheel of a loaded dray passing over the toes of one of his feet. Ho is now progressing favorably and able to get about again fairly well. The need for a new public school is much felt especially in the windy weather whon both teacher and children suffer from the effects of the draughty structure that does duty for a school just now. This is the only sickni - which seems to affect the attendance of the children, whose number now taxes to the utmost the capacity of the building. The native predicted eruption is still in abeyance. It was noticed however that there was an appearance of aetrcity at the top of Tongariro theother day, but with the many clouds about it is difficult to speak with any certainty. Mrs Hcwctt, the native temperance advocate, passed a week or two with us. She was going to Tokaanu, but circumstances prevented. Spring seems to be fully established, the absence of frosts for some weeks now has been marked and appreciated; foliage in general is feeling the benefit and early blossoms are very encouraging and hopeful. The advent of Professor Forbes is looked forward to with interest, as the establishment of such works as arc foreshadowed in Mr Firth's schemo would le beneficial to all and sundry, both local and provincial. They would also be an additional attraction'to the many interesting spots of the Thermal Springs district, therefore every success is wished for Mr Firth and anything that could be done.locally to further the schemo would bo willingly undertaken by the residents here.
