THAT ANALYSIS.

The member for the district,. Mr W. Kelly, following up the promise obtained from the Government last session "by Mr T. McKenzie as to the desirability of procuring a correct and up-to-date analysis of the waters of this locality, ai-ked in the House, the other night, if any steps had been taken in the matter during the recess. In reply, the Minister for Lands said that " by some oversight " the analysis had not been mado during the recess, but he would t«ke care that it would be done. This, we presume, is the re-commencement of the "later on " 63' stem of attending to our urgent necet-sities which was meted out to us last year. It will bo remembered that a distinct promise was made to Mr McKenzie by Mr Reeves " thai a thorough analysis should be nir.de by a competent analyst cm the s-pot, as soon as tho weather was favorable to

such—towards the end of Winter." When Winter had merged into Spring a second promise was made that it would surely be attended to in a very short time, and then t"h9 session concluded and no more attention was paid to the matter. Jt is well known that the waters here undergo changes in their chemical properties as well as in temperature; and that several very valuable springs have not been analysed at all. For instance the Manupirau spring on the fhore of Lake llotoiti, is credited with effecting cures which approach almost to the miraculous, yet we question if its exact chemical constituents are known. Iu justice to the invalids who use the baths seeking restoration to health, not only should analyses of the various i-pringa-be made on the spot now, but a laboratory should he fitted up so that such could bo made periodically or whenever it might seem desirable to do so.
