[FBO>r OTHR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The petition drawn up at a recent meeting of settlers here and duly recorded in the Chronicle was forwarded to Mi Kelly for transmission to tho Minister oi Lands and a copy was also sent to Mr Gerhard Mueller, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland. The petitioners asked that certain roads specified should l)f made. A reply has been received from Mr Mueller stating that the £IOO voted last session would be expended oil flu construction of the road from Arakiwi i Mamaku, and that Mr Be )aney would proceed with it forthwith. The Minister <>: Lands had also instructed Mr Mueller t forward the wishes of settlers as much ■ possible in opening up a connection between the Oxford road and the Munakii railway station. The necessity for roadabout here is very great as the grass i' coming on well and stock will require t< be brought in within the next two months
Clearing is rapidly going on. Mr li"expects to fall about 30 acres, Mr Jackson 40 acres, and Mr Quade 120 acres I owards Arakiwi Messrs Kayes, McCoi' mack and other settlers are busy fencins and making other improvements on tin new clearances.
Messrs Kusabs Bros,' mill is fullv oc cupied and matters at the yards near tli railway line seem brisk. Several oxten sive orders from the "H'aikato are bein supplied.
