the Pukeroa Ground last Saturday fifteen stalwart Maoris, representing Te Mourea, took the field agairst the local team, which, by the wav, contained several substitutes and was cartainly not, by any moms, Rotorua's strongest combination. The play for the first spell was tolerably even. The Mourea men played up remarkably well and although they were never dangerous they kept the Rotorua men pretty well in check, and never allowed the backs to get away until just within the call of half-time. At this stage W. Dansey managed to scramble over the lino and registered the first score for Rotorua. Mitchell took the kick but did not raise the score.
The second spell showed the superior condition "I' the local p!av;rs. The ball was k pt inside th • Mourea's 20 most of the time, and the Rotorua backs got off some remarkably pretty passing runs, and effectually outwitted the opposing defence. Before time was called four more trios were secured. Mitchell adding the major points to two of them t.h-_- scores thus stood: Rotorua 19; Mourea nil W. Dansey and Aporo eacli secured two tries.
At a meeting of the Rotorua Football Club held at Lake House on Saturday last the following men were picked to take part in the scries of matches beginning at iVlatataaud ending at Tauranga; Ryan. W. Dansey, Monkley (2), Mitchell, Arawhata, Foley, Wer , Wharetutaki, Hnka, Aporo, Relie, Hunua, I'atene, Rangi tahi, Kanapu, Shiels, Mango, 'i'e Witemn, Hikaterewa, and Ngaroata. Irrespective of these three or four men proceed to Tauranga direct, to play in the most important match of the tour. The team will In ye Rotorua on Saturday, play Mutata on .Monday the 29th; Maketu. July 1 ; To Puk. , July 2 ; Tauranga, July 4. The tour will occupy about nine days.
