THE ROTORUA HOTEL REMOVAL.

At the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Committee for this district, held at Taurangu, on Wednesday last the application for the removal of the license of the Rotorua Hotel to Puerou was again under consideration. At the previous meeting it was decided (hut if plans of a new house of not less than 50 rooms were submitted and approved the application would be granted. At that meeting also a telegram was read from Mr Percy 1 Smith, Surveyor-General, to Mrs Morrison, the applicant, stating that the Government had no objection to the removal of the license. At Wednesday's meeting, however, a telegram was read from the Premier to the effect that after giving the matter the fullest consideration the Government declined to consent to' the removal. The Under-Secretary of Justice also wired that the application for removal of license from Rotorua to Puerou had been refused by the Government. Plans for the proposed new house wen; produced by Mr Campbell and being in accordance with the Committee's stipulations, were approved. Counsel for each side argued at some length on the merits of the case and ultimately the Bench decided, that taking into consideration the telegram of flu 1 Surveyor-General and the resolution of the Committee passed on the 4th inst based thereon, the application should bo granted.
