WHERE THE UITLANDERS COME FROM.
During the whole of la-1 year, 189."j, the n-cords of the poit authorites. of Capetown show that the number of passenger* landing at the port had averaged 600 a week, and that of late that portentous figure had increased to nearly 1000. Assuming, las is certainly the fact, that nearly the whole of these immigrants make their way, as quickly as may be, to the Transvaal, it is not unreasonable to assume that, leaving out of consideration the augmentation from the two colonies and other ports than Capetown, the population of this state is being increased every year by the addition from this one source alone of 20 000 Europeans, or rather more than the total of burghers registered on the Vieldcornet'u lists. t may perhaps, be not altogether foreign to the real issue to oliserve that of this .20,000 the va~t majority are able-bodied men.
