ROTORUA JOCKEY CLUB.

A meeting of stewards of the above (Jlub wns held on Thursday last at Luke i House Hotel, Mr R. !). Dansey in the chair. The correspondence consisted of a reply from the Railway Department j •rtatingthattherequesttohavQ (he meeting announced on posters to be issued regard- ; ing excursion trains on Anniversary Day ; would bo complied with. The secretary, Mr Urquhart explained that as it was impossible to obtain the services of an auctioneer to well the priviIcges tenders had been solicited, both by advertisement in the local paper and by the delivery of circulate, to all who were likely to bo disposed to tender. This action having been approved tenders were opened. For the -rates the tender of Mr C. Clarke at .£'2l was accepted, his being the highest, offer. For the publican's booth the following tenders wero submitted r—W. Bennett, £7 7s; .T. McArthur, £lO 10s; C. Huott, £lO los; C. A. Clarke, £lO .Is; E. Reeves, £ll lis. An objection was raised to Mr Reoves, dnder on (he ground that; the amount enclosed was a penny and a fraction short of tho doposit required. This objection vv is deemed frivolous by the Chairman and disallowed, the next highest tenderer r!:- Huett dissenting from the ruling. Mr Henshaw then proposed that the tender of Mr Euett lie accepted on the ground thai he was a local man and that ir was a pity lo see money go nut of the place. Mr Orquharl seconded. Mr Rogers moved in amendment that the highest tender, that of -Mr Reeves, be accepted. There was no other course possible under existing circumstances. It would he an-; discreditable to all concerned if it were made public that the stewards hail passed over the highest tend( r in order to accept that of a fellowsteward. Mr Boulton seconded and the amendment was put and carried by <! to :>. Mr Huett protested vigorously against the action of the meeting in accepting a tender which did not comply with the conditions, hut the Chairman t held that that point had already been de- j cidedand ruled the motion out of order. Genoral business being resumed, Mr duett tendered his resignation as starter and steward As the Club had been unable to obtain a otaligator permit he had made up his mind, in the interests of sport, to do a little betting over the mooting. lie proposed Mr Mayes as a substitute. The Chairman thought the resignation most inopportune, but if Mr Huett had decided to bet on the meeting the Club had no alternative! bid. to accept it. They were however in a dilemma, because if the position were offered to Mr Warbrick; who had only been rejected by a narrow majority, he might, very naturally refuse. It was eventually agreed to postpone consideration till next meeting to allow of Mr Warbrick being | seen on the matter. This concluded the business of the eveuing, but those more particularly interested remained till a later hour discussing | certain matters of detail which required j : adjustment. At a meeting last night, Mr Rogers in tic chair, a letter was read front the i secretary of the Brass Rand regretting , that the hurdles had been taken without leave and apologising for not acknowledg- . in<r the Club's offer of use of ground. Mr Urquhart stated that he -believed the ■ Band would play if invited io do so. As it was considered that the presence of the ■ Rand would be entirely in the interests i f the lessee of the gates it was decided to offer the invitation if free admission were ; granted. Mr A. Warbrick was appointed steward and starter. The nominations for the meeting were then opened and satisfaction expressed at their number. i NOMINATIONS AND WEIGHTS.
