The Adelaide Register says tho condition of the growing wheat crop is causing increased anxiety, and its backward stato in some districts has not enabled the crop to withstand the late dry weather and the yield is certain to be sinnll. In. other districts tho outlook is not so bad, and tho crop is still in a position to recover with good rainfall. The recent rains, it gays, were insufficient, and rain is anxiously looked for and needed in northern, western, and eastern wheat districts, and unless it comes very soon the prospects will be dark. The French Geographical Congress, at its recent meeting, passed arosolution in favour of adopting measures for stimulating the birth-rate, tho population of Franco being on the decline. It is estimated that tho annual consumption of oats in the I'nited States has been reduced about 100,00(1,00(1 bushels owing to the displacement of horse-power by electricity and bicycles.
