In Australia horses and cattle are now being branded by electricity from storage batteries. The temperature is uniform, and the brands safe and artistic.
At a small public meeting held at Cooktown it was resolved to request the Minister of Mines to order the immediate expulsion of the Chinese from the Starcke goldfield.
A letter appears in Christchureh Press signed "Deceived," written by uiio uf those who went up with the labour men to work at Galatea. He says the whole business has been mismanaged and humbugged. Summonses have been issued against three lads for distributing cayenne popper in a ballroom at Albury on July 26, by which many persons wore almost suffocated.
Twelve hundred cattle per week are being put through the Alligator Creek Meat Works at Townsville.
A fanner namod Preston, while blasting logs at Bruthen, Tictoria, on July 29, was blown to pieces by a charge prematurely exploding.
Tho Colonial Treasurer states that it would mean a loss of £SOOO to permit newspapers printod in tho colony to bo sent abroad free of postage. Tho suggestion was not likely to bo entertained for many years.
A lind of slato has been made on Mr E. Mill's property. Wo have been shown a sample of it, which is of excellent quality. A find of coal is also reported from the same property.—Exminor.
