THE TIMES ON THE GOTHENBURG SYSTEM.
The report of the Times commisioner to Gothenburg is "distinctly favourable to the system," as it discloses fifteen ways in which the liquor trade is better managed in Gothenburg than it is in England. It enumerates these as follows It is fox-bidden to serve men under eighteen years of age; no women or children are ever seen at the bars; the spirit bars are closed at 6 or 7 p.m. ; no intoxicants are sold after 8 p.m.; vendors must sell for cash only; no person may have several glasses in succession ; the kitchens are clean and spacious and the food good ; the bar trade conducted without loitering; tho houses have an unpretentious exterior; they are situated in open public place-; no spirits are sold in country districts; monopoly granted to be used fur publio welfare; the publicans have fixed salaries; they make profit only on nonintoxicants j there are no tied houses.
