Thomas Hutchison, a young man of good family, who studied for the bar in Auckland, New Zealand, when a youth, was, on Juno 14th, sentenced by Judge "Wallace, in the Superior Court, San Francisco, to imprisonment for life in the Californian State Prison, at Ran Chicntin, after a conviction of assault and robbery. Young Hutchison made an eloquent appeal on his own bebalf, and his counsel also made a strong plea for mercy; but, unfortunately, bis client bad been previously convicted of a similar offence. A melancholy feature of the case is that Hutchison's father had recently arrived in San Francisco from New Zealand, and would soon be joined by his mother.
