The tea trade in India and Ceylon gives a means of livelihood to about 1,000,000 natives. The amount of British capitnl embarked in the tea industry in India aud Ceylon is about £26,003,030. The Hindoos show singular frankness in making census returns. Amungst those who were called upon to describe their callings, some designated their means of living as •'village thieves," "supported by relations," or "living en loans." In the Parisian cemeteries it is now customary to place metal boxes on the tombstones. Each box has a slit in tL'o top, and in it visitors drop their cards. The relatives can thus see the names of persons who cherish the memory of the deceased. A Chicago butcher keeps a tamo fox. It keeps his place clear of rats' The experiment was tried after cats and traps had failed. The first night tho fox spent in the shop ho slaughtered ;jl rodents.
