From thence we marched past Mr Grant's homestead to the evident astonishment of the people, crossed the Wbirinaki River and camped at Orongohukire. at the entrance to the pass leading to To Whaiti. Here we found the police and survey parties in camp, and our lone; and tedious march across the Land of No Account was over. The men are now working on the road to To Whaiti and are well established in their I camp. A number of natives of the Tuhoe. j Ngatimanawa and Ngatiwhare Tribes are holding a meeting nt To Whaiti hut no trouble is anticipated in that direction. The men are quiet and orderly in camp I and the few malcontents have been | effo -tually silenced.
