THE CATERPILLAR.
Some enterprising gardeners in California who had been greatly troubled with caterpillars, which ate their cabbages and other vegetables, have discovered a remedy at once simple and effective. They just stirred a pound of treacle into two gallons of water, and then added 2oz »f Paris green. Whilst keeping tho mixture well stirred up they dipped handfuls of cabbage leaves or any wc6"ls or plants which were eaten by the caterpillars, and then laid them about in the vegetable garden, neat the plants likely to ho attacked. The caterpillars preferred the half-wilted leaves lying en the ground and they at" 1 thorn and died. This (savs an exchange) should ho worth a trial by cur gnrdeners. Paris green can be purchased at the paintshops and at "me of the seedshnps. It is a very line powder, and much care must be used when mixing it, as it is a poison.
