ROTORUA TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the nbovo was held in Mr Malfroy's office, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 'J 7 tli February. Present —Mr C. Malfroy, J.P.. (Chairman.) Mr T. Brent, Dr Gitulers, J.P., and the Clerk, Mr Dunsey. Upon the application of Dr Gindersthe meeting was adjourned till the next day at 2 p.m. ADJOURNED MEETING. The adjourned mooting was held on Thursday, 2.Stli February, at 2 p.m. Present—Mr C. Malfroy. J.P. (Chairman) Mr T. S. Brent, Dr Cinders, J.P., and the Clerk. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Outward correspondence read and approved. IXWARI) CORRESPONDENCE. Reply from Ccniinissiosier of Crown Lands, re Mr Kelly's application for permission to fence in part of the esplanade behind the Roman Catholic Church. Resolved that Mr Kelly be granted permission to fence in a piece of land behind the Roman Catholic Church site, and the lake in order to stack his timber, as per his letter upon payment of one pound sterling per quarter, terminable sit 3 months' notice on either side. Carried. Letter from Mrs D. Griffiths applying for a road to be made to her residence.
Resolved that tenders be called for forniilifr the continuation of Haupapa St. from Tutanckai to Amohia Streets. Carried Prom Town Clerk, Auckland, enclosing copies of city bye-laws, price l()s. From Air Currie, architect for the new hotel in Fenton Street, asking permission to sink and excavate for a cellar and cesspit. Permission granted. From Uuder-Secretary for Lands, re bve-laws for sanitary purposes. From County Council, Tauranga, in reply to the Board's letter re the 2'. per cent deducted by the Council for collector's commission. Resolved that the Council bo asked to refund the; sum of £2 10s, and that this Board fail to see where the large ainouut of extra cleaical work comes iu. In face of this fact that the details do not seem t) have been gone into, as tho deduction made from this Board, £3O, is not pro rata to the expenses. Carried. From the Surveyor-General, (telegram) intimating that the police will be instructed to visit premises and give notice that earth closets must be used. From Constable Murray, re investigating sanitary arrangements. Resolved that Constable Murray's letter be forwarded to the Surveyor-General, upon receipt of further communication from the Constable. From Mr F. B. Scott, re his application for the position of bath-keeper. Resolved that ho bo informed that his application will receive due consideration when the appointment is made, but the appointment will rest with Dr McGregor, Inspector of Asylums. In-otn Uuder-Secretary for Lands, re drainage schemes for the new hotel. Resolved tli&t the Under-Secretary for Lands be informed that the Board has no funds at its disposal to carry out the drainage of the town, also that, the draining will be a very costly matter, and that tho Board not having- any source of revenue upon which it could borrow the large sum required to satisfactorily carry out a general schame of drainage. They have instructed Messrs Hancock and Co. to make provision for draining their premises by constructing a cess-pit, within their own premises, for the disposal of their drainage, in a similar manner to that adopted for years past by the Sanatorium. The whole question was discussed with the Surveyor-General upon his late visit to Rotorua, and it was pointed out the desirability of making some suitable arraxigement for raising a loan for this object. Carried. Resolved that the Surveyor-General be written to regarding steps being taken to construct a wharf off the end of Tutanekai Street, for the purpose of enabling tourists to land and embark from steamers and other boats. Carried.
The following accounts were passed for payment: W. A. Williams, ill 13s lOd; H. Brett, 13s 6d; Hot Lakes Chronicle, 10s: H. S. Motrin, £l 3s (id; Tonson & Garliok, £o 16s lOd. Resoivcd that the Board form itself into a committee of the whole for the purpose of taking into consideration the question of selecting suitable bye-laws for the locality. Resolved that the Tauranga Borough Council be asked to cause this Board to be supplied with a copy of the bye-laws, and also their standing orders guiding the proceedings of the Council. Dolayed telegram to be sent to Tauranga. The Chairman drew the attention of the meeting to the neglect of the custodian and poundkeeper ic paying in the fees received and looking after the animals in the streets. Resolved that he be informed again that the fees must be paid in in the first week of the succeeding month. This concluded the meeting.
