GAMBLING AT SEA.
According to reports the gambling nuisance appears to be growing on some nf the i-teamsbips Tunning between England and Austittli*. Several scandals have lately been reported, and it locks as if there were some advanced and enterprising gamblers who travel in and out, -'ailing their living out of the more simple passengers. Two young fellows gniug to the colonies quite recently were swindled out of £I,OOO and £9OO before they had reached Colombo, and a petition was addressed to the captain of the vessel to have the winning gamostor turned ashore at that place. Tins was (\ono, but there was apparently nothing t>i stop him from going aboard tho nex passing steamer and resuming hi questionable operations. These re ports come from the European end o the line. There do not appear to have been any very serious complaints at this end.
