HOW R.A.F. MADE LEAFLET RAIDS
LONDON, Sept. 23
Details of the methods used by R.A.F. bombers in the leaflet raids on Germany are revealed in a communique issued by the Department of Information.
A method, previously tested, showed that pamphlets could be dropped in bundles the size of bricks, which became paper showers when falling on selected towns.
After gauging the strength of flic wind, and having predetermined the rate of fall, a pilot signalled to his crew, which worked at top speed dropping bundles through bomb-hatches. On the night on which a big industrial city was “paper-raided,” pamphlets were released 50 miles from the objective, and the raiding aircraft were well away before the pamphlets reached the streets.
