SALVAGE GEAR TAKEN FROM PORT BOWEN

The New Zealand representatives of the iPort Line are still awaiting advice from the head office in London as to whether the stranded Port Bowen is to be abandoned. In the meantime all the salvage gear is being brought ashore from the steamer in lorries at low tide. The piles of the unloading ramp have been sold and will be drawn from the sand this week. The Port Bowen became stranded off Castlecliff at midnight on July 'l9th, when inward bound to "Wanganui roadstead from Picton.
