PROCEEDS FROM SALES WELLINGTON - , May 9. WELLINGTON, Last Nighr. The gross proceeds of the five wool sales held at Wellington this -season totalled £1,742,160, as compared with £1,556,005'f0r the 1937-38 season,.an increase of £185,555 due to the larger quantity of wool sold. This season's total "cheque "is, however, £1,069,309 less than the total of £2,811,469 realised at the Wellington sales during the 1936-37 season.

The official return compiled by the Wellington Wool Brokers' Association gives-the result of the final sale held on April 24 as follows: Bales offered, 25,752; bales sold, 24,950; bales passed in, 802; nett weight sold, 8,769,1921 b.; gross proceeds, £338,360 17s 8d; average price per bale, £l2 15s 2d; average price per lb., 8.713 d.
