UNIQUE MID-ATLANTIC CEREMONY.
H.M.S. REPULSE TAKES LEAVE OP ROYAL PARTY MAIL FOR PRINCESSES (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Thursday, 1.4 a.m. ! LONDON, May 10. H.M.S. Repulse carries letters to the I Princesses from Their Majesties. The leave-taking, which was wirelessed, was unique in naval history. The liner Empress of Australia, slackened to ten knots in a half gale, the Repulse moving up close to her port side, where Their Majesties were standing amidships. As the Repulse came abreast the crew cheered and the Marine Guard presented arms. The band played the National Anthem and then struck up "Here's a Health Unto His Majesty."
The King took moving pictures. Huge seas were breaking over the Repulse.
A wooden barrel to which were attached red, white and blue flags, containing the mail and photographs, were then thrown overboard. The Repulse with masterly manoeuvring, picked it up by hooks and then swung round to return to England. Their Majesties earlier watched the barrel being filled.
LINER ENTERS ICE-FIELDS NOW 620 MILES FROM AMERICA (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, May 10. The Empress of Australia entered the ice-fields, and hopes to emerge tomorrow. The sea has abated and the liner has speeded up to 18* knots. Their Majesties last evening watched the escorting cruisers enduring a typical Atlantic dusting. They are now 620 miles from America.
