BROTHERS TIE FOR FIRST

The fourth Grand Prix organised by the Canterbury Auto-Cycle, Club was held at Gust to-day in perfect weather. There was a crowd of 12,000. The first four places were filled by Christchurch riders. Brothers, W. Alexander and R. Alexander, filled first and second places, M. Wear being third and T. Torrens fourth. The Auckland rider, L. Perry, who led easily till the 17th. lap, retired owing to a puncture. The Dunedin riders, B. Rosson and G. Haggitt, raced particularly well, but both retired with engine trouble. The course was of 152 i miles of 25 laps of six and one-tenth miles each, over undulating and difficult roads. The race was slower than last year’s because of the state of some corners, but the winners completed the course in 2 hours 23 minutes 35 seconds. The fastest lap time was 5 minutes 11 seconds, put by by A. Clarkson, of Auckland. Thirtyseven started and 10 finished.
