RACING AT OTAKI TO-MORROW

SUMMER MEETING PROMISES GOOD SPORT. THE FIELDS IN REVIEW. Though the fields for the Otaki Maori Bacing Club's summer meeting to-mor-row are not large the material is fairly good and the even fields should be responsible for good betting. The recent Feilding and Levin fixtures with the earlier racing has provided some very useful form for the guidance of speculators and interesting racing seems assured. The course is reported to be in excellent order for "the meeting and fine weather is all that is needed to ensure a large attendance. PUKETOI HACK HURDLES, £150; lh miles. Erebus 11 0- Linguist 9 9 Porotiti 10 B Sir Nigel 9 4 Royal Record 913 Otaki 9 0 In the opening race three of the six acceptors are recent winners. Erebus, who fell at Feilding in the race won by Boyal Record, comes in on 51b better terms while Porotiti will carry 131 b more for his Levin success. The bulk of the money will be for this trio, with the South Islander, Linguist, most preferred of the others. To reduce to two the vote goes to EREBUS ROYAL RECORD

MANUAO MAIDEN PLATE. Golden Garter 8 7 White Rajah 8 7 Golden Hawk 8 7 Richelieu Dame Flora 8 7 Pearl 8 7 Baron Bold S 7 Mitigation 8 7 Bisect 8 7 All Blood - 8 7 Beauly 8 7 Chertkee 8 7 Barabbas 8 7 The Ring 8 7 Daregain 8 7 Yours Truly 8 7 Dunbeath 8 7 Pursuit 8 7 Lady Baron 8 7 Helioza 8 7 Speedfast 8 7 Counterlunch 8 7 There is no outstanding form in the large field of novices and it is a race that may provide a surprise. Dame [Flora, Barrabas, Daregain, Lady Baron, White Eajah and Richelieu Pearl are all seasoned horses but some of the newcomers will be difficult to. rate. Posting of jockeys and barrier positions will ■doubtless have some influence on the betting and with favourable treatment a likely trio are YOURS TRULY DAREGAIN LADY BARON

PUKEKARAKA HACK HANDICAP. JillO; 6 furlongs. Sporting Gift 9 3 Mother-in-Law 712 Sigurd 8' i Lady Lyric 7 8 Punarua 8 * Daymist 7 7 Ruling Spl 8 1 Lady Baron 7 7 Acrobat 7 U Mitigation 7 7 The recent winners in this field are Sporting Gift, Acrobat and Punarua with placed form credited to Sigurd and Mother-in-Law. The latter is a very consistent place-getter and a win for this mare is well overdue. Her turn may come to-morrow. Assuming that Sporting Gift will prefer the latter engagement the favoured pair at the moment are MOTHER-IN-LAW . PUNARUA RERE NIKITINI MEMORIAL, £250; 14 miles. Play On 8 8 Dorado 7 8 Galteemore 8 5 Accomplice 7 7 Mea Mea 8 4 Good Sun 7 3 Cricket S 1 Little River 7 0 Amatory 7 8

Every acceptor for the principal race has some form to support its chances and the event should prove a good betting one. Play On and ilea ilea are the most recent winners but the consistent Galteemore and Dorada are both deserving of much respect. Cricket is a possibility on earlier form and both accomplice and Good San are capable of upsetLhig the i?sue. The race bears a -.ar.'ly open aspect at this stage bat a pair that are certain to receive solid support are PLAY OX GALTEEiICRE

OTAKI HACK HANDICAP. £110; 7 furlongs. Sigurd 9 0 Dunbeath 7 9 Ruling Spi 811 Drachma 7 3 War Cloud 8 4' Quimper 7 9 Larwood 8 4 This event has drawn a comparatively poor field and the two at the top of the list have other engagements. They would possibly prefer this event ill the circumstances and either may be elected favourite. Larwood and War Cloud have registered wins previously and of the others Quimper may makemost appeal. A pair that read as well as any are RULING SPI SIGURD

WAIORONGOIIAI HANDICAP, £150; 7 furlongs. JMittle D 1 Royal Star II 7 7 Alunga Sl2 Lone Raider 7 7 Lady Montana 8 4 Export 7 0 Aureus 7 7 Omarere 7 0 The eight runners carded for the open seven-i'urlong race all have" some credentials to support their chances, and speculation will be fairly even. Mittie's wins at Feilding and Levin v/erc full of merit and even at the increased weight she will be hard to beat. Alunga at his best form would be safest on the rMit side while L°/1y Montana, if produced anything like herself, must beconsidercd. Export and Lone Raider, both trained on the course, are approaching good form and either are capable of winning. Royal Star II has shown what he can do and must be treated with respect and altogether the race is not an easy one. Form at the recent Levin meeting suggests EXPORT. MITTIB

RAHCI HACK HANDICAP, £110; 1 mile 1 furlong. Earl Colossus 9 0 Dancing Tom Tom 7 10 Flame 7 S Sunbeam ■ 7 10 The Ring 7 7 Larwood 7 8 Whetuma 7 7 Twenty Grand 7 3 Earl Colossus, Tom Tom, Larwood and Twenty Grand comprise the form division in the hack distance race. Possibilities outside these are Spender and Sunbeam but speculators will pre-

fer to stick to form and this appears to be best represented in EARL COLOSSUS TOM TOM REKE REKE HACK HANDICAP, £110; 5 furlongs. Sporting Gift 9 2 Great Legion 713 Nelumbo 8 13 Daymist 7 7 Hunter's Eve 8 10 Bourmond 7 7 Conversion 8 7 Pursuit 7 7 White Lady 8 5 For the concluding race the form horses are Sporting Gift, Nelumbo, Hunter's Eve and White Lady and of these most support will probably be accorded HUNTER'S EVE WHITE LADY

HORSES FOR OTAKI. TRENTHAM STABLES WELL REPRESENTED YESTERDAY'S TRACK WORK. Among the horses who were-galloped at Trentham yesterday were the teams of H. A. Telford and J. W. Lowe (states "Rangatira" of the Post). Accomplice, who has done most of her galloping lecently on off mornings, pleased by the manner in which sho finished alongside Good Sun, with Suneo further back, after running seven furlongs. Punarua and Yours Truly were together at the end of their work. Royal Star II has done a deal of long, solid pacing lately, and he has thrived on it.

Trentham stables are well represented at Otaki and Sigurd (A. G. P. Newnhani) finished up his work by running the last three furlongs on the plough in 37sec, and doing it well. Good Sun (E. L. Hitchen) ran the last half-mile of his two rounds in 52sec.

Lady Lyric (It. A. Hawkings) and Acrobat (S. G. Robinson) took 53sec. for a comfortable half-mile. White Lady (A. Sagar), after being led to tho six furlongs, came home from that mark under a good hold in lmin. 26see.

Twenty Grand (Hawkings) drew right away from War Cloud (Robinson) at the end of six furlongs in lmin. 19sec, the last half-mile in 54sec. War Cloud would not gallop at all, but Twenty Grand responded when required. Twenty Grand, who is improving steadily at present, is to be raced for the first time over nine furlongs at Otaki. Most of the other work was on . tho grass. Lustral (A. Foster) and Floral Robe (A. E. Bennet) were half a length ahead of Quimper (P. Burgess) after seven furlongs in lmin. 30sec, the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec. Lustral has just come in after a let-up for some weeks. Barabbas (S. Wilson) and Anita Foe (D. Lamb) were on terms a couple of lengths in front of Twilight Song (D. W. Bush) after five furlongs in lmin. Gsec, the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. W'akarara (R. Hawes), Gay Hunting (J. Nicholson), and Pharisee (V. Bevan) were strung out in that order after running three furlongs in . 37sec. Sunbeam (Hawes) did a mile alone in lmin. 46*sec, the last half-mile in 54sec. Lady Baron (Bennet) ran on better than usual in beating Coronado (W. Doyle) and Cherokee (Lamb) easily over five furlongs in lmin, 3 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 51sec. Dungarvan (A. W. Sim) went well when always leading Daregain (Foster) over half a mile in 49sec.

Among those who did strong pacework were Galteemore, Alunga, Motherin- Law, Beauly, and Drachma. Golden Hawk and Bisect were sprinted down the straight. Dancing Flame and the two-year-old Counter Lunch were among the later workers. . .

GOING WAS FIRM AT AWAPUNI YESTERDAY. LITTLE FAST WORK ATTEMPTED Except for three of the six acceptors in the hurdles, Awapuni stables are not well represented at Otaki. For that reason there were few gallops yesterday morning. The course proper, with the flags well out, was available, but the going was hard. The plough, however, was in very good order, and it was there that

Porotiti (S. Anderson) galloped a pleasing six furlongs with Tail Light (Williamson), the pair finishing together in 1.20 4-5. Royal Record (W. E. Pine) and Dainty Sue (W. J. Broughton) were associated in a similar task and after running the first three in 40 2-5 they were on terms iu t.n* post to record 1.21. It was another nice effort.

Silver River was let off with a light task, working on the ploxigh and being speeded up for the run down the straight. Great Legion was given similar work and he appears to have improved as the result of the race he had at Feilding. J. Chaplin will ride Silver River, All Blood, Great Legion and Dainty Sheila at Otaki. Laughing Lass and Ecstatic were restricted to pace work on the plough, and The Bigot was worked at three-quarter pace. Laughing Lass and The Bigot do not look any the worse for their Feilding outings.

The Buz/or, the Auckland Cup candidate, worked over a round on the plough, coming home the last six in 1.21 3-5.

With two races at Feilding, Sporting Gift was let off with a light task. He looked well and appeared anxious to go fast. Other riding engagements for Otaki arc: — S. Anderson: Lady Baron, li!cr*en Star, Daymist. W. E. Pine: Royal Record. W. J. McDowell: Porotiti. 1 W. J. Broughton: War Cloud, Twenty Grand. White Gold (Chaplin) sprinted six

going strongly at the finish to record 1.20 4-5, the last two in 28. Old Surrey, Earotonga and Copy Cat, Feilding winners, were given easy exercise, and so was Oratory. They look to be none the worse for Feilding. There were several gallops on tho course proper. Colonel Bogey (Broughton) whose next ra;-,e will- be at Woodville, and Bumble (Ireland) sprinted six furlongs, being timed to run the last five in 1.7. The Beau Perc fillies, Chevychase (Chaplin) and Millament (Temperton) were together all the way and they cut three out in the smart time of 38 2-5. Beaupartir (Ireland) had Thrasos (Temperton) as a companion over six. They ran the first three in 41, and with Beaupartir going very easily, they finished together in 1.21. The youngsters from L. Knapp's stable, La Coquette (Broughton) and Katebridge (Anderson) were sprinted two furlongs and they could have improved on 26. Luke Wilson's horses were given pace work on the plough, and so was The Crooner, who is expected to do his Christmas racing at Awapuni.

ADDITIONAL RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. Additional riding engagements for Otaki have been announced as under: — S. Wilson; Tom Tom, Barabbas, WhiH» Lady. P. Burgess: Bisect. A. E. Bonnet: Good Sun. D. L-amL: Cherokee. B. 11. ilorris: Mitiyation. 11. N. Wiggins: Galteemoro, Alunga, Drachma, Lady Lyric. I. Uohloff: Golden'Hawk. J. McCnuley: Mother-in-Law. It is possil)le that the riding for the Telford Stable will be done by P. Atkins. FLOOD TIDE SCRATCHED AUCKLAND, Last Night.
