STRIKES IN FRANCE.

The employers have instituted sanctions against strikers locking out men •desiring of resuming at the arsenal and -tramway factory as employees. Metal workers dismissed have been told to apply again.
STRIKERS ATTACK BELGIAN WORKMEN. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) ALENOIBNNES, Dec. 1. Strikers attacked and injured several Belgians crossing the frontier .to resume work at Lille. Textile workers, after being refused permission to enter the works, stormed the factory. Later they were evacuated by the police and mobile guards. An indication of the Government's policy was given by M. Paul Eeynand, Minister of Finance, in a speech at a luncheon, when he stated: "Events yesterday do not signify a social landslide, but we want to obtain the goodwill and not lifeless resignation of -democracy. We cannot exist without ■agreement from the great majority, and national reconciliation is necessary for the success of our great interprise:" METAL WORKERS STILL OUT. SITUATION ALMOST NORMAL. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) PARIS, Dec. 1. The metal workers are still out on Strike at Dunkirk and Valenciennes, •but the situation throughout France is reported to be almost normal. Forty were arrested at Valenciennes yesterday and six to-day. They were sentenced to imprisonment varying from 20 to 45 <days.
