FAMOUS AIRMAN.

FLYING-OFFICER A. E. CLOUSTON. When Flying-Officer A. E. Clouston early this year established new records for the flight f'.ro,m England to New Zealand and return, and for the Tasman crossing, splendid tributes were paid to the prowess of the New Zealand airman, but it was probably not realised at the time that he possessed a very intimate connection with the Manawatu.

While searching the recoids'of the Waitohi School recently, tr.e chairman (Mr. E. N. Rowe) found the name of a former scholar Arthur E. Clouston. Mr. Rowe forwarded a letter of .congratulation to Mr. Clouston, and asked for a photograph for the schooh By a recent mail Mr. Rowe received a very nice letter in reply, in which Mr. Clouston recalled the clays when he was a pupil of the Waitohi School, lie said lie '' still remembers them a J the happiest days of his school career, although he was dunce of the'r school class."

I Mr. Clouston expressed his pleasure lat the request for a photograph and promised to send an autographed cop/ bj the next mail. He extended to tho committee and the present boys and girls "at that grand country school,'' his warmest thanks and good wishes for their future happiness. It is pleasing to know that Mr. Clouston, who has won world wide .fame, has not forgotten his old associations.
