NEW FLAX STRIPPER.
EXPERIMENTAL WORK AT FOXTON. “For some time past.” said Mr.. M. E. Perrean, speaking at the monthly meeting of tlio Foxton Ckamhcr of Commerce, “experimental work on this stripper lias keen carried out under Government supervision. The Government lias been particularly interested in the new machine and has assisted materially in the research work connected with it. The machine strips the green leaf in such a manner that there are no “tails" and paddoeking is reduced to a minimum. Samples of the fibre have been spun at the wool pack factorv and have resulted in a much superior yarn, in both colour and strength.
“I feel that tbe time is hero wkon New Zealand should give up all thought of exporting its fibre and should concentrate on the manufacture of commodities within the 1)01111111011 along the lines pioneered by the New Zealand Woo lea ck and Textiles, Ltd.,’’ concluded Mr. Fen-can.
He expressed regret that there had been no announcement concerning the proposed acquisition by the Government of the Moutoa swamp for flax-growing purposes and.it was decided to write .to Mr. L. O. Lowry, M.P., asking for information.
