CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION.
PROVINCIAL COURT PLANNED. I Provincial arrangements In connection with the Centennial Exhibition in 1940 were given consideration recently at a conference of representatives of local bodies and it w r as decided that 5000 square feet of ’ space should b« taken for a Wellington Provincial district court. At a meeting of the Horowhenua Council yesterday support was given to the project.
j An account of the business conducted jat the conference was received. It was 'estimated that £12,000 would be needed ito cover all costs of establishing a 'provincial court, and it was suggested that this sum should be raised by levies on local bodies, calculated oa a population basis. The council discussed the proposals in committee, but the'chairman (Mr, G. A. Monk) said he believed that for ths exhibition to be a success it would have to receive the support of the country people. As one of the council's representatives, Or. A. J. Gimblett said he gained the impression from the conference that the country towns would have ta assist the exhibition or it would not succeed. The project was being taken up very enthusiastically and it would have advantages, though they could not
be seen on the surface. The council confirmed a resolution passed in committee appointing the | chairman, Cr. Gimblett and the clerk (Mr. P. 11. Hudson) a committee to represent and attend to any matters concerning the exhibition. Approval was given to the proposal in respect to the allocation of the sum of £12,000 to be found by the Wellington Provincce.
