There was a fair crowd at the usual fortnightly euchre tournament held ut the Himberly Hail iasi. night. A dainty suffer was s-erved and an enjoyable time was spent by those present. Treasures that cannot be replaced were lost by Miss Marjorie Jones, of Alahoe, when her trousseau, valued at well over £IOO, was destroyed in a fire that burned her father’s home on Upper Hastings road, New Plymouth. Nothing was saved and the family will lose heavily. The house was insured for £SOO ami there was no insurance on the contents.
When a fall of rock came down immediately in front of their car near Warkworth, a party of motorists travelling from Auckland to Whangarei had an unenviable experience. One large rock split and a section struck the front wheel of the car. Another rock, estimated to weigh about two tons, erash.ed over the road close to the car. The fall blocked the roadway and the part/ had to clear a track before they could proceed. The steering gear of the car was slightly damaged from the force of the rock hitting the front wheel.
■ A proposal to do away with the present winter and spring shows and in their stead stage one big agricultural and industrial exhibition each year, in the autumn, was advanced at a special meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P, Association at Palmerston North yesterday. Sponsored by the secretary (Mr. H. E. Kissling) the suggestion was in the main, favourably received by members, and after full discussion, it was referred to a special sub-committee which is to go into the matter thoroughly and report to the general committee.
