MANAKAU NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The Kuku-Manakau. Football Club held their annual ball in the Manakau Town Hall on Monday night. There was a good attendance of dancers and a very enjoyable evening was given all. Larkin’s Elite orchestra, from Palmerston North, were responsible for |the very enjoyable music provided. Mrs. : Royal, of Otaki, did the supper catering and thus satisfied everyone’s wants. [Dancing continued until early morning when the happy party dispersed. I One of Mr. A. S. McFarlane ’s transport lorries was responsible for holding up the south-bound express for onehour yesterday morning. When crossing the railway line to deliver some cement, one wheel of the truck went into a ditch, thus throwing the remaining load to one side. The driver of the truck then went about trying to straighten his load before proceeding on his journey. However, while doing this, a portion of the load fell on him knocking him unconscious. Word was then sent to the Manakau Railway Station advising them that the truck jwas still across the line. Immediately I someone was sent up to stop the express, while the truck was removed to allow the train to proceed.
