HOUSEHOLDER’S MEETINGS.

ELECTION AT KOPUTAROA. The biennial meeting of householders to elect a committee for the Koputaroa School, was held on Monday evening, a largo number attending. Mr. S. A. Broadbelt was voted to the chair, and Mr. A. Hustler was elected secretary for the meeting. The Work Reviewed. In the report of the two years’ work it was stated that the school grounds had been maintained in good order. The Public Works Department had laid concrete at the rear of the school and this provided a good drill area. The department also formed a tennis court and this was now waiting to be asphalted. In this connection an amount of £lO was due to the department for the latter work, but as it was completed under the estimated cost, Hie committee might not be called upon to contribute. In the Horowhenua Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural competitions the school won the calf rearing shield in 1936. In 1937 it was not successful, but a very good array of junior calves came forward. They were all in good condition and had received every care and attention. Owing to the infantile paralysis epidemic, (he dental clinic treatment came into arrears, but it had now been brought up to date. The present scheool piano was beyond repair and the committee had given consideration to the purchase of a good reconditioned instrument.

Continuing, the report said that a very enjoyable day was spent at the Ohau River when the school picnic was held. The children had been conveyed by Messrs Kernohan and Hewitt, while prizes had been donated by Messrs Hood and Brown, to whom thanks wore due. Appreciation was also expressed to the Pig Marketing Association for donating a ham, and to the ladies who assisted with the catering. In conclusion the thanks of parents and the committee were extended to the teachers for the good showing made by scholars in their examinations, despite the fact that the school was closed for a lengthy period during the epidemic. Committee Elected. Eleven nominations were received for the five seats on the committee, and the result of the election was as follows: Messrs S. A. Broadbelt (chairman), G. Koberstein (secretary), R. Brown, W. J. Lancaster and J. Sciaseia. General. On the motion of Mr. Hustler, seconded by Mr. Hall, it was decided to make a recommendation to the Education Board that the bus at present convoying secondary school children from Shannon, Koputaroa and Ihakara to the Levin School, be used as a feeder to the Arapaepae and Koputaroa School. Also, that Potts Road be included in the present route and children residing south of the Arapaepae School be given transport from the school. Appreciation was expressed of the work of the "committee and headmaster and staff during the past two years. POROUTAWHAO ELECTION. The meeting at Poroutawhao was also well attended, Mr. H. J. Kilsby occupying the chair. .Seven nominations were received for the five seats, and in the election which ensued the following were elected: Messrs H, J. Kilsby (chairman' and secretary), C. Arcus (treasurer), C. E. C. Webb, W. Aidrich and S. Sloan, Report on Work. The following report, given by thechairman, covers the main points of interest in the work of the school during the last three years: “Since the last meeting bf householdois, the members of the committee have given their loyal support to the interests of the school and its activities. As chairman of the retiring committee, I wish to convey sincere thanks to members of the committee for their regular at- j tendance at meetings and their unfailing support. It has been a pleasure to bo j associated with them. 1 also wish to , thank the head teacher (Mr. W. Clifford), who has always attended committee meetings, and his co-operation has been of great benefit to the school and the district. I wish to congratulate him on the way he has conducted the school and on the way he has improved "the surroundings, 1 also wish to thank the assistant teachers.

“During the period the committee has carried out quite a large amount of asphalting in the grounds, including, the basketball court. After a great deal of endeavour the committee secured an up to date open air school room, which any school would be proud of. The financial statements shows a credit of £26 19s 7d.”

The headmaster (Mr, Clifford) addressed the meeting and gave an outline of his work during the last two years.

LARGE ATTENDANCE AT OHAU. OLD COMMITTEE RETURNED. Very keen interest was taken in the meeting at Ohau, over sixty householders gathering in the hall. Fourteen nominations were received for the seven seats and the election rsulted in all the members of the retiring committee being returned. The members elected were as follows:—Messrs W. G, Benning (chairman), A. 11. Holder (secretary), P. A. Page, W. C. Boyer, H. G. Nicholas and P. R. Catley. muhunoa school. No election was necessary in con-

nection with the Muhunoa School meeting, where the number of nominations received did not. exceed the number of vacancies. The committing fleeted was as follows: Mrs, N. Kirkcaldie (chairwoman), K. B. Kirkcaldie (secretary), G. R. Gibßons, E. Rolston and! E. Harris.
