FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION.

HOROWHENUA UNION MEETS. The usual weekly meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Football Union was held in the Oxford Tea-rooms, Levin, on Tuesday evening, when the President (Mr. .1. Gillespie) was in the chair. Also present were Messrs. A. J. Devonshire, T, Carter, H. Roera, W. Seymour, A, Gillespie, A. Holder, Ncpia Winiata, W, C. Childs (referees’ secretary), J. Casey (secretary) and J. W. Rimmer (treasurer). Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs. J. B. Bateman and H. McMillan. Appreciation of Donations. Master lan Harris (Muhunoa East) and Mr. White-Scott (Te Horo) wrote thanking the union for grants of a football to their respective schools, —Received. Grant to Union. Tin Taranaki Rugby Union intimated that it was making a grant of £5 towards the expenses of the primary schools’ quadrangular tourney, held at Levin last year. —Received. Condition of Ground. The secretary of the Kuku-Manakau Club wrote, stating that the condition of the ground at Manakau was such that the club would not ask a visiting team to play at that town, unless the ground had previously been cleaned up. Continuing, the letter stated that cleaning fees for last season had cost the club £2 las and this year they would bo considerably more. At present the club was paying 4/- weekly to have the ground cleaned for Saturday matches. The club asked whether the union was prepared to do anything in the way of contributing to the cleaning expenses—the union secured all the profits. Mr. Winiata pointed out that a definite ruling of the union stated that “a club ■was responsible for the state Of its ground.” Mr. Rimmer considered that n,.' ex ception could be made 5n tae case ot the ground concerned. After further discusion the matter lapsed, no action being taken. Teams Travelling Via Shannon. The usual amount of £1 was granted ed Foxton thirds and Kuku-Manakau juniors, team who, on account of the flooded state of the Whirokino highway, were compelled to travel via Shannon to fulfill their respective engagements. Maori-Pakeha Match. On the motion of Mr. Devonshire, seconded by Mr. A, Gillespie, it was decided to play the Maori-Bakeha maten at Levin on June 18th. Player Ordered Off. J. Poutama, of Kuku-Manakau, appeared before the union to answer a charge of indiscriminate kicking. Poutama stated that he followed the ball through the scrum and accidentally kicked another player. Mr. Devonshire pointed out that Poutama had previously been cautioned by the union for rough play, and in moving that he be stood down for one month, -said that it was desirable, by inflicting severe penalties, to stamp out rough play for all time. This was seconded by Mr. Rimmer. As an amendment, Mr. Winiata moved that the player concerned be stood down for a fortnight, and this was seconded by Mr. A. Gillespie. The mover pointed out that it was questionable whether Poutama was guilty of rough play or over-enthusiasm. On being put to the meeting the motion was lost and the amendment carried. Club Fined. The Otaki seniors were lined 5s for defaulting to Foxton in their fixture last. Saturday. Outside Match. The Paraparaumu Club wrote asking for permission to play a match with the Karori Club (Wellington), at Ivarori, on June 6th. —Granted. Paraparaumu Domain. The Paraparaumu Club wrote stating that the union had been granted the use of the Paraparaumu Domain for the”* Reason. The club also intimated that they would do everything possible to assist football in that district and •concluded by wishing the union a profitable and successful season. —Received. Culvert at Levin Domain. The Levin Borough Council advised that it was ready to instal a culvert as requested, at the Levin Domain, and the union was asked to give the necessary particulars to the borough overseer. General. Air. Holder stated that it was almost impossible to keep spectators from en crouching on the field at Manakau, and lie pointed out that it was unfair to expect the referee to keep them back. — Mr, Holder was instructed to go into the matter of erecting a suitable fence and report to the next meeting of the union. Saturday’s Fixtures. The following fixtures were drawn up for Saturday, May 7th, their venues and referees also being given : Senior : Athletic v. Kuku-Manakau, at Levin, Mr. R. G. Henderson; Otaki v. Wanderers, at Otaki, Mr. H. Jacob; Shannon v. Foxton, at Shannon, Mr. H. Hemi. , Junior ‘. Te Horo v. Rahui, at To ; Horo, Mr. M. Johnson; Otaki v. Waimeha, at Rahui, Mr. G. Rhodes; Paraparaumu v. Paekakariki, at Paekakariki, Mr. S. Graham; lvuku-Mauuk.au v. Shannon, at Manakau, Mr. Marsh j Hakaraia; Athletic v. Wanderers, at a Prouse’s Paddock, Mr. Iv. Davis; Mout toa, a bye. Third Grade : Athletic v. Shannon, e at Shannon, Mr. R. Pene; Wanderers v. j ■j Foxton, at Easton Park, Mr. W. Williams; Rahui, a bye.
