Cadet Birney won the Kiiig’s Prize at Bisley with an aggregate of 283. His scores at 900 yards and .1000 yards were 72 and 68.

When firing started at 1000 yards the leaders wore three British, three Australians and three Canadians. Birney is a cadet officer aged 23 who was competing .in the King’s Prize for the first time.

- Lieutenant J. Smith (Territorial Artillery) was second with 281. Like Birney he ; learned shooting while at Cambridge University.
