VISIT OF SPRINGBOKS.
[FIRST NEW ZEALAND MATCH ON JULY 24. The South African team, which will visit New Zealand this season, leaves south Africa en May 14. They are expected to arrive in Melbourne on June 7. The matches to be played in Australia number eight and the Springboks are due to leave Sydney for New Zealand on July 17. Dominion Ininerary. After their eight matches in Australia the 1937 Springboks arrive here on July 20, and thereafter their programme is:— July 24—Auckland. July 28—Hamilton. July 31— New Plymouth. August 4—Palmerston North. August 7 —Wellington. August 14—First Test (Wellington). August IS —Blenheim. August 21—Christchurch. August 25—Greymouth. August 2S —Timaru. September 4 —Second Test (Christchurch). September S—lnvereargill. September 11—Dunedin. September 15—Napier. September IS —Gisborne. September 25 —Third Test (Auckland). September 29—Whangarei. The team leaves Auckland on October 1 for Australia and South Africa.
Mr Percy Ware Day, who piloted the New Zealand Army team through the Union in 1919, will be the manager. 1921 Team Lose Twice. On their initial tour of the Commonwealth, which they visited first, and the Dominion in 1921, the Springboks lost only two of the 23 games played. Summary:— Points. P. W. L. D. F. South Agrica won at Port Elizabeth, 11—6. New Zealand won at Newiands, 13 —5. Altogether 22 matches were playe<~! on that tour, New Zealand winning 16, losing five and drawing one (Northern Provinces, at Kimberley). The other three losses were: Capetown (second game of itinerary), 3 —7; Transvaal (fourth match) o—6;0 —6; and Western Provinces (second last game), 3 —lo. After this the All Blacks won the final Test, to gain square the rubber between the countries.
