BRITAIN A "HAVE NOT" COUNTRY.
GERMANY GETS BENEFITS OF TRADE WITH COLONIES (British Official Wireless.) Received Wednesday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, April 28. In a speech at Portsmouth Sir Robert Korne, a former Cabinet Minister, referred to Germany's recent demand for the restoration of her former colonies. Dealing with the German suggestions that the British Empire had become an exclusive unit he rerecalled that last year Britain bought £32,000,000 worth of goods from Germany and on their part Germany bought only £21,000,000 worth from Britain. The Empire bought £54,000,000 worth from Germany against £42,000,000 that Germany bought from the Empire. ''There is no country that could better be described as a 'have not' country than Britain. We do not control our Dominions. In getting foodstuffs and raw materials from our Dominions we have got to pay for them and Germany can get them in exactly the same way and by exactly the same methods," concluded Sir Robert.
