A five-storey building occupied by Grimley, Ltd., in the Broadway City was destroyed by fire in the early morning. The damage is estimated at £IOO,OOO. Three shops in front of the building were also razed. Tie fire, heralded by a series of terrific explosions, spread among inflammable stocks, including paints and spirits, with amazing rapidity. Every brigade in the city area attended and only the strenuous■; efforts of the firemen prevented the flamfesr 'from spreading to other buildings in the block, which included Grace Bros, huge emporium. Eight families in homes at tie rear of Grimey’s raced for their liyeri when the flames threatened to ignite their houses.
