CORONATION ILLUMINATIONS.
REDUCED POWER CHARGES. The decision that the supply of power for decorative illuminations during the period of the forthcoming Coronation celebrations should be made to local bodies at a greatly reduced charge was reached at the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board this morning. The Under-Secretary for the Department of Internal Affairs wrote in connection with the Coronation celebrations asking the Board’s co-operation in granting a paid holiday to its employees on May I2th, and in providingpower at a reduced rate for illuminations. ‘-vlnaddition, His Worship the Mayor of Levin, Mr. P. W. Goldsmith, wrote outlining the special illuminations proposed by tthe Levin Borough Council, and asking that the Board make as liberal a concession as possible in its charges in this connection. On the motion of the chairman, Mr. G. A. Monk, the first letter was received. the requests framed to be acceded to. •Commenting upon the question of supply of power, Mr. Monk pointed out that while the Board would like to give the current free of charge, sucn an action would be against its set policy. He accordingly moved that power be supplied for the purpose to the Levin Borough Council at a charge of one-halfpenny per unit, which represented the lowest charge which could be thus levied. This suggestion was adopted by the meeting, it being pointed out that this charge would apply to all local bodies within the Board’s area for the period of the Coronation celebrations. It was decided that any further requests should be considered by tthe chairman and the treasurer (Mr. P- J. Ramsay) with power to act.
