The weather was fine, but the high wind required the constant attention of the marksmen, and frequent changes were necessary to keep in the bulls-eye. At the conclusion of the match, Mr. A. Thompson welcomed the visitors on behalf of the Horowhenua Association, and spoke of the value of team shooting to improve the standard and also to help the younger members to gain experience. Speaking on behalf Of the visitors, Mr. F. J. Soler thanked the home team for their hospitality, and the pleasant day which had been spent on the range. Possibles were secured by H. Lumsden and W. Jenkins at 500 yards, while at 600 yards L. Lumsden returned a nine-bull finish for 49. The Horowhenua team shot particularly well to average 140.5, which gave them their win comfortably. It is interesting to note that in the 360 shots fired by the home riflemen, only five “threes” were recorded, which constitutes an eloquent example of the value of coaching. The (Tve Levin men did not record anything under a “four.” The scores were as follows: — HOROWHENUA.
