MILLIONS OF MESSAGES.
TELEGRAMS AND TOLL CALLS
Over throe million telegrams were handled by the Post and Telegraph Department during the nine months of the current financial year ended December ?*lst. This figure represents an increase of 9.68 per cent. over the business for the corresponding period of the previous year. The revenue total has uot advanced proportionately, owing to concessions in charges which were made during the period, notably that of the (id minimum for telegrams, the advance under this heading haying ■been 4.6 per cent, representing £7,001. Telephone toll traffic is growing to impressive proportions, the number of calls handled during the nine months ended 31st December reaching a total of 8,195,788, an increase of 1-4.9 per cent., representing an additional 1,063.699 calls. flic increase in revenue, as in the case of telegrams, is not exactly in lino with the extra "business for the same reason. It amounted to 12.5 per cent., or £40,567.
