FRUITGROWERS APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE.
50,000 CASES LOST IN STORM,
(By Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Last Night.
Steps tire being taken by the fruit growing organisations in Auckland
district to obtain relief from the heavy losses suffered as a result, of the gale last week-end. Thousands of trees have been destroyed and many growers have lost a great proportion of their present season’s crop. The plight of orchardists was out lined in a message sent by the Gratia Fruitgrowers’ Association to the Government. The message asked that some measure of relief be given to stay over the hardship that all were confronted with. It was estimated that the district had suffered the Joss of 50,01)0 cases of marketable fruit as well as several' thousand fruit trees.
