The health stamp idea which U providing the main financial basis for children’s health camps in New Zealand was first adopted in the Dominion, in 1929, and the plan came fromDenmark, where it iraSi conceived by a young Danish postal clerk in 19(1-1. As nowadays we harness rivers and utilize their power for tly> benefit of the community, so this young Danish postal official dreamed of harnessingand. utilizing to some good purpose the feeling of goodwill which is abroad, in most countries during the Christmas season. He believed that people vould be prepared to use on the let ters and parcels carrying' their expressions of goodwill special stamps which, besides paying postage, would benefit some charity. Events have proved that he was no visionary. Since 1901 the use of health stamps has spread all over the world and the period during which they are used to assist many forms of charitaible effor : has been extended to cover more than the actual Christmas season.
