A managing-director considers that one of the most important pieces of the firm's equipment is the dictating machine installed in his own home. “I find it has a thousand uses," he says. "I do most of my thinking at home, i after dinner, when the children have gone to bed. The machine stands in a niche bv the fireside. Directly I have an idea, no matter what it is, I record it on flic machine. .Sometimes T feel I can dictate, right off, whole plans, policies anil suggestions. At other times the barest flashes of unrelated ideas come to mo. But they all go on to the wax cylinder immediately, and mv brain is relieved of them. I take the cylinder to the office with me in the morning, and within an hour all my overnight dictation comes back to mo tvped out. I have no hesitation in saying - that not only does this dictating machine save me hours of valuable time, but it. has also enabled me quicklv to solve some of my most difficult. problems by enabling me to catch and record ideas as they arise during my mod prolific ‘thinking-time’."
