MANAWATU ELECTORATE.

:MR J. K. HORNBLOW RECEIVES DEPTJTATION (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FOXTONy Last Night. This evening a large representative •deputation headed by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Pcrreau) waited on Mr J. K. Hornblow with the request that he offer himself as a candidate for Mana--watu at the coining elections. Mr Perreau stated that he was pleased to head the deputation as- he felt the time had come when Manawatu should be 'represented by a man resident m the district. The electorate comprised 8000 electors, and surely out of that , number one who was resident in their midst could be found to represent them. Their choice had fallen on Mr Hornblow in view of the satisfactory •services he had already rendered. Captain J. K. Middleton expressed the view that the coming election was going to be a hard-fought one between the Nationalists and the L'abour party, and it was felt that a strong,.virile candidate who could fight for the district should be selected. In view of Mr Hornblow's splendid record of publie service; they had felt he would be admirably suited to fill the position, and it was their earnest request that "he should stand. Mr C. M. Cronquest (Shannon) referred to Mr Hornblow's excellent work in connection with the educational and hospital welfare of the district, and said this alone should •qualify him for the position they were -asking .him to nil. Mr J. S. Shorthouse and Mr D. R. o°ilvy endorsed the remarks of the t previous speakers, and with others Coined in expressing the hope that he Voul'd give serious consideration to the request. Mr Hornblow thanked the deputation and said that possibly those connected with the movement had been ' actuated by an appreciation of his ptiblie services over a long period. Anything he had done had been a pleasure and privilege, however, and he ha& no ambition to become a member of Parliament. Had he had tho ambition the opportunity had been afforded him in the past. However, he woajd-be pleased to give the request "lis serious consideration and he would

give a definite answer along with a full statement at a public meeting to be held next Monday in the Masonic hall at 8 p.m.
